SERVPRO - Water Removal Procedures For Hollywood Homes
Water Restoration Options For Homes in Hollywood
Water can quickly damage Hollywood homes and much of the property inside them. Effectively restoring them begins with getting the water out of the house as rapidly as possible. Doing it correctly, without accidentally damaging the home in the process, requires training, specialized equipment, and experience.
Most Hollywood water removal requirements occur due to a failure in plumbing. Once SERVPRO personnel have the water turned off, or the actual leak stopped or repaired, they begin operations with either commercial grade pumps for deeper water or a smaller device called a water extraction wand for levels less than around ankle-deep.
Both machines remove massive amounts of water in a fairly short amount of time. Once they accomplish this part of the removal process, then property formerly underwater begins to dry, and further damage to it stops for the most part.
Now that they can physically access the floors and carpets, SERVPRO specialists examine both for moisture trapped in both. They hang area and smaller rugs outside to dry in the sun, but wall-to-wall carpeting requires more effort to dry them. Most residential carpets have a pad that absorbs water and quickly breaks down after it becomes wet, so technicians roll the carpet up to remove it. If water soaked wood flooring for more than a few hours, there is often moisture trapped between floorboards and usually some water absorbed as well.
With carpets and floors both, our technicians use air movers and box fans to dry them quickly. They lift entry and exit points for each carpet and then force warm, dry air under and over the carpet to speed up the drying process while the box fan draws out the cooler air trapped underneath. For wood floors, they direct the air mover across the surface, moving it at regular intervals to avoid over drying a particular section of the floorboards.
If water came in from a higher point such as a leak in a second-floor bathroom, technicians some of the same tools to dry damp or soaked walls. They remove the affected panels and use an air mover to force warm air into the exposed cavities. If the drywall is simply damp, they drill holes behind the baseboard to allow water to drain and then insert a hose connected to an air mover to dry the space behind the panels.
