Handling Water Damage Issues in Bel Air
Team SERVPRO is Standing by to Tackle Water Damage Incidents in Your Home
More homes suffer damage from failed plumbing than a rising river each year. Regardless of the source, however, there are certain, joint actions that every restoration company should take to protect and clean each home.
Stopping water damage in Bel Air means stopping the water source as quickly as possible. Every SERVPRO office has an emergency response team ready around the clock to make this happen and then begin returning every home to its pre-damaged condition.
First, we secure the residence. If there is still a source of water coming into the home, we stop it by turning off the water main or blocking access with sandbags. Once accomplished, we inspect the home to determine if we need to board up any doors or windows or cover damaged sections of the walls or roofs.
Our second task is removing standing water. We start with commercial grade pumps and bring in our generators or a generator truck if the residential power supply is unavailable. Then, we inspect crawl spaces, beneath floors, and behind walls for additional water.
Third, we extract moisture trapped on floors and carpets. After removing the furniture, technicians use water extractor wands to draw out water caught in the nape of the carpet and between floorboards. These devices are designed to remove water without damaging carpet or wood surfaces.
With a dry surface underneath our feet, we move on to step four and remove water from behind walls; to be thorough, we may have to remove a section of the wall board and drill one or more holes. Drilling gives us access behind the drywall where we can insert an extractor wand or use an air mover to force dry, warm air inside to speed the evaporation process.
Finally, we examine the carpet. A wet carpet is one of the most easily damaged items in a home and is often the most expensive to replace. To hopefully prevent that, we examine it for mold, delamination, and damaged seams. If there is mold, we recommend disposal in most cases. If the carpet is particularly expensive or difficult to replace, we can clean it of course.
When there is delamination, that means the backing of the carpet has loosened, and fibers are now coming out. When it is too thin, there is nothing to do except replace it. The same goes for seams that have been under water for too long and have begun to rot.
Most water damage is preventable if you can dry out your home quickly. SERVPRO of Bel Air / West Hollywood has served our area for decades and is ready to help our neighbors recover from any disaster. Call us at 310) 572-6132 today to get started or to schedule an inspection.
